It's very jarring to hear Hank Green talk about only having one job. This was 2007, quite far off from the Green brothers launching CrashCourse and other companies that would change their lives forever. At the time of today's video, Hank is like many of us -- a freelancer dependent on other people's promises to get paid and stay employed. If you don't know what it's like to be in this position, and you don't want to, I hope you don't ever find yourself here. It has both its perks and its downsides.

Welcome back to Vlogbrothers Rewatch -- an ongoing series of short articles in which I document my long journey through the entire Vlogbrothers YouTube catalog and provide my commentary on each, making connections between these videos, the real world and how they are a time capsule showing how much the social internet has changed. Using this playlist, I am going through the back catalog in chronological order, one video at a time, starting from the very beginning.

If no one has ever told you this about freelancing, let me enlighten you just a little bit. One of the many downsides to working as a freelancer or contractor in many cases is that you are depending on someone else's promise that you will get paid -- on time or at all. Even if you have a contract, depending on the arrangement or the size of the company, there still might not be a guarantee that you get paid when and how you've been told you will. It's something many people aren't prepared for when they find themselves doing this kind of work.

Thankfully things did eventually work out for Hank -- he has many jobs and projects and doesn't have to worry in quite the same way about being paid by clients. But this was not a very fun day for 2007 Hank who did have these worries. Per usual, though, things always do tend to work out in the end no matter how difficult things can be in the moment.
