In a recent Dear Hank & John podcast episode, it was briefly mentioned that over the years some old Vlogbrothers videos have been made private on their YouTube channel for reasons we don't speak about. Whether or not you are disappointed that today's video isn't one of them, the reality is that some videos, while hard to watch, are still somewhat integral to the historial significance of the channel at large.
Welcome (or welcome back!) to Vlogbrothers Rewatch -- an ongoing series of brief articles in which I document my questionable journey through rewatching every Vlogbrothers video uploaded on their YouTube channel and share my commentary as I go. Using this playlist, I am watching everything in chronological order from the very beginning, one day at a time.
While this video is not the first to feature a song by Hank, it is a precedent for what would come later that year. It was partially due to a song video posted at just the right moment that caused the Vlogbrothers channel to gain significant traction very quickly, and while many of us choose not to acknowledge that franchise or its creator by name anymore (whether or not you do is up to you personally, no judgment), it ended up making a significant difference in the Green brothers' lives.
So in a very strange way, Hank's creepy song about actor Helen Hunt bears significance in Nerdfighteria. At least he even acknowledges toward the end of the video that the song is creepy and he's not taking this whole thing too seriously. This song, by the way, did eventually end up on the album he released, so at this point he couldn't technically erase it even if he wanted to. I don't think at this point it would matter much. He has plenty of more important things to worry about.
