It's always fascinating to stumble upon a Vlogbrothers video that shows its age. In this case, it's the current events of green technology that aren't so current anymore. Technology and the things we use in our everyday lives have changed drastically in the last 18 years, and it's fun to think about what things might look like 18 years from now. ("Fun" may not be the best word to use here, but you know what I mean.)

Welcome (or welcome back) to Vlogbrothers Rewatch! This is an ongoing series of short articles in which I document my very ambitious journey through the entire Vlogbrothers YouTube channel back catalog. Using this playlist, I am rewatching everything in chronological order starting from the very beginning. It's been about 10 years since I've watched many of these videos, and to be honest, I don't remember a lot of them. So far, that has actually turned out for the better.

For a moment, I didn't know what the plastic case was that he holds up -- but it turns out I am old enough to remember buying blank CDs in those exact cases to burn music onto before we had playlists. Fun fact: I used to create "soundtracks" to the stories I wrote and burn all the music onto CDs. I bet my parents still have some in their basement somewhere. I'm very embarrassed about this, mostly because of how much plastic I must have wasted.

But many viewing this video now wouldn't know what I'm even talking about. Unfortunately, just because we don't tend to buy CDs in cases like those in bulk anymore doesn't mean we're not destroying the planet in plenty of other ways in 2025. Happy Friday? Everything isn't fine, but at least all of our music comes out of our phones now -- right?
