Vlogbrothers rewatch, Day 7: January 9
By Meg Dowell
Vlogging in public is one of those things that has become heavily normalized more and more as the internet (and the ability to record high-quality video on smartphones) has become more widely accessible. It was pretty impressive for someone to do it in 2007 -- even more impressive that Hank Green did it in 2007.
But there he was anyway, vlogging at the North American International Auto Show. Because when you are tasked with making a video every other weekday for at least a year, you're going to squeeze content out of every single event you encounter whether your audience thinks it's interesting or not. You're the one that makes it interesting, somehow.
If you're stumbling upon this series for the first time, welcome! I'm sorry! We're watching every Vlogbrothers video on the channel from the very beginning (using this playlist) because the world is burning and I'm seeking joy from things that make me feel alive.
I've been a Nerdfighter since about 2007-2008, and I did not remember this video before watching it today. I did a full Vlogbrothers rewatch for the first time in 2015, and I still did not remember this video until today. I'm going to call this a hidden gem, especially because of the part when Hank says he's not sure if he's living out his values and then proceeds to show the Hummer exhibit his middle finger. You were doing fine, little Hank.
This was also back when you could get invited to events as a blog writer, when not everyone was doing that and there were fewer blogs. Little did Hank Green know that he'd one day get to go to much cooler events than auto shows in Detroit. He and John should get together and start an annual event specifically for online video creators. That would be cool.
