Video montages filled with submissions from viewers set to copywrighted music is something you just don't get on YouTube anymore -- for a lot of reasons, most of them good reasons. The death of the video response feature, having to be extremely selective about the music you choose to add to your videos (if any) -- there is a reason 2007 was an extremely interesting slice of time on the social internet. There were fewer rules. It's mostly because of ads.
All that being said -- welcome (or welcome back) to Vlogbrothers Rewatch -- an ongoing series of daily articles in which I document my journey through rewatching every Vlogbrothers video in chronological order, from the very beginning, using this playlist. We're almost through the month of March already -- and things are only going to get more chaotic (in a good way!) from here.
This was around the time when John had to take a brief break from uploading videos regularly during an illness, and it's heartwarming to see that even way back then -- so early on in the history of the channel -- he had so much community support and so many people rallying around him during a difficult time.
This would be amplified to a huge degree, of course, many years later when Hank was going through his cancer treatment. (Apparently "stuff on everyone's heads" made a comeback for that, which I missed during one of my long stretches without keeping up with video uploads). When good people fall on difficult times, their communities should -- and often do -- show up to show them the love they deserve. It was evident even then that Nerdfighteria is rooted in nothing but good things, and I hope that as a community we always continue to celebrate that.
