Vlogbrothers rewatch, Day 5: January 5
By Meg Dowell
It's not Strawberry Hill, but it cost less than $4.00. Many questioned the corn dog, but if you ask me, the combination (cheap wine and fried food) sounds like a good evening to me.
It's Day 5 of our Vlogbrothers rewatch! I'm still here, committing to the promise I made despite how long-term of a commitment this will turn out to be. We're just here to have fun (using this playlist)! And not drink cheap wine, because it's two o'clock in the afternoon and I'm at work. I'm a responsible adult. I'm also watching 17-year-old videos and writing about them as part of my job. What a time to be alive.
Possibly the best thing about this ongoing series is that Vlogbrothers videos eventually get extremely deep and emotional and insightful, but that's not how they start out. They're still fantastic, don't get me wrong. But they are also short, extremely silly, and possess minimal substance with which to create a solid commentary on. If someone were to take on the challenge of doing that for every single video ever made on the channel, that is.
Hank still has that Narnia poster in the office where he makes his videos today (I'm not sure if the same can be said about that collage). Some things never change. But many things also do change, like how close Hank feels he needs to be to a camera when making videos. Granted, I remember what trying to make videos on a laptop webcam used to be like. You do your best with what you've got.
Shoutout to Sutter Home, the rocks in Napal, and whatever lies next in store for all of us on this journey. I have absolutely zero memory of what comes next, and that's why this experience is so fun for me. And maybe for you too.
