Vlogbrothers rewatch, Day 4: Eating toilet paper

The first-ever Vlogbrothers challenge was a ... success?

Challenge videos have been a big part of the internet landscape for a long time, and became largely foundational for the Vlogbrothers (then Brotherhood 2.0) YouTube channel in the very early stages of its existence. Some challenges, as you very well know, are successful. Others are not.

And today on our Vlogbrothers rewatch we've reached John Green's self-inflicted toilet paper eating challenge. Remember that? I didn't. Also, hello there. If you're new here, we're embarking on an epic journey through the Vlogbrothers repertoire from the very beginning (using this playlist, if you would like to follow along). It's only the fourth video and things are already getting more chaotic. Who could've guessed?

I love how we've temporarily abandoned the video titling structure of Brotherhood 2.0 videos so far to emphasize the fact that John will be consuming actual toilet paper in this video. The date-in-title structure does stick around for a while yet, but we do eventually abandon it in favor of more, allegedly, eye-catching headlines. We call that "growth."

Also, you know you've got a small channel running when you can shoutout a viewer by name based on a video comment and offer them a gift. I remember those days. I sincerely hope Peter and his family are doing well. You know who wasn't doing well on January 4, 2007? John Green after attempting to consume five sheets of toilet paper. Most of us could never.

Having forgotten about most of these early videos so far is one of the biggest surprises about this rewatch. I figured I would remember more of these moments, but I'm finding myself enjoying them as if seeing them for the very first time. This, friends, is why we rewatch things we used to love. In order to discover how much we still love them after all this time.

See you tomorrow! If you're watching along, Godspeed.
