Can we talk about, just for a moment, the fact that Wikipedia in 2007 and Wikipedia in 2024 are pretty much the exact same website? It functions the same, people still flock to it for basic information (at least I hope they do). People most definitely still rely on it as a primary source for research even though they most definitely shouldn't. I hope Wikipedia never changes. I hope that as the rest of the modern internet crumbles around it, Wikipedia remains the last site standing. May it forever reign.
Welcome to Vlogbrothers Rewatch, where we discuss things like Wikipedia from a late 2000s perspective because that's where I'm currently living as I continue on with this series. Using this playlist, I'm documenting my daily journey through every Vlogbrothers video on the channel, once per day, from the very beginning. I'm committed to seeing this through to the end. I hope you are too.
There are some people who do seem to have a Wikipedia-like knowledge of things almost as if a version of the site does exist inside their heads. Unless it's Star Wars, I don't think I could be considered one of those people. I personally like to know a little bit about a lot of things, educating myself where needed and content to shift between my many different interests.
It would be terrifying if someone else had the power to edit your brain, to manipulate your memories and opinions and core beliefs. How John Green hasn't managed to turn this nightmare scenario into a book yet, I'm not sure. To be fair, he's been busy writing books that are arguably much better, but I suppose that's just based on my personal preference.
For some reason, I'm not prompted to read through John Green's Wikipedia page to see if there's info there that I didn't already know. Perhaps I'll report back on that at a later date.
