Vlogbrothers rewatch, Day 18: January 24

Until rewatching today's video, I had completely forgotten that John Green at some point promised Hank and Nerdfighteria that he would not sing in videos anymore. I always scroll through the comments on each video because it adds to the time capsule vibe of the whole experience, and I have to say that I'm a little sad that we allegedly don't let John sing these days.

But before I get into that, a little welcome (or welcome back) whether this is the first time you're stumbling upon one of these articles or it's been a minute. I'm in the middle (well, really, still quite near the beginning) of a full Vlogbrothers rewatch. Using this playlist, I'm watching one video per day in order from the channel's very beginning and writing some commentary on each one. It's fun, I promise.

Also, as a side note, if you're following along you may have noticed that I skipped the Week 1 Condensed video that appears in the playlist right before this one -- mostly because it's content we've already gone through here and I'm not sure there's value in trying to add more.

Anyway, back to John's singing! I actually quite like it. I don't remember the context of him deciding to stop singing eventually, but I think there's this assumption that if you sing on the internet it has to fall between the parameters of what society has collectively deemed "good." And I just don't subscribe to this belief. Singing is singing. It's a collective human experience.. Everyone's voice sounds different and not everyone is equally musically experienced or trained.

This is my petition to encourage more singing in future Vlogbrothers videos. There will be plenty more to come in this rewatch, but I mean now, in 2024, or rather at this point, in 2025. Who's with me?
