If the past 15 days have taught me anything, it's most certainly that I do not remember the majority of these very early Vlogbrothers videos. Listening to Hank read out those survey questions feels like I am hearing them for the first time (even though I know I have seen this video at least once before). And some of these questions really have me thinking deeply about my life. As they should.

Before I go on more about that, what are we doing here? Well, I'm rewatching every single Vlogbrothers video ever made in order from the very beginning (using this playlist), and you're reading this particular update in that ongoing series. It's still January 2007. John Green's number of published works is significantly smaller. CrashCourse does not yet exist. YouTube is a very different piece of the internet.

But anyway, back to Hank's survey. There are a few questions Hank asks John in this video that nearly have me in an existential spiral -- particularly "what are you doing right now," "what do you want to be doing," and "why are you doing it?" I've been asking myself a lot of similar questions over the past year, about what my work and hobbies mean and why they're important and whether or not I want to continue on this same path.

These are crucial things to think about right now, when the landscape of the internet is rapidly changing and it's my literal job to be on it, think about it, write about it, and understand it as best as I can. Is this what I want to keep doing? Because I'm definitely not doing it for the money or the recognition or because the internet is a particularly pleasant place to be.

I hope Hank Green knows that questions he asked his family and friends in January 2007 are still helping people navigate the world all these years later.
