Never have I related to a Vlogbrothers video harder than in the moment at the end of this one, when author John Green plainly states the exact number of words he needs to write before the end of the day before declaring, in a mildly defeated tone: "I'm going back to bed."

If this is the first time you're happening to stumble upon this little word-filled adventure, well, hello and welcome to the chaos. I'm in the process of rewatching every single Vlogbrothers video ever made, one per day, in order from the very beginning (using this playlist). I'm doing this for many reasons, one of them being that I'm a longtime Nerdfighter whose 2024 has not been particularly great, and I'm revisiting online content that brings me joy because life is short and we all deserve to be happy.

Something you probably do not know about me (and why would you want to?) is that Looking For Alaska is my favorite book, a fact that today's video has appropriately reminded me of. Unfortunately, I only have two editions of the book, but I would love to acquire more at some point. A 20th anniversary edition would be fun ... to anyone who may or may not be reading this for which that statement may be relevant.

I'm really enjoying this more candid, day-to-day look at what it looks like to be an author on a deadline. John's career as an author had only just begun to take off, and wouldn't really become as big as it is now until The Fault In Our Stars. But this really goes to show that writers, regardless of their degree of success, are really just humans struggling to get things done like the rest of us. We are all simply trying to do the things.
