Vlogbrothers rewatch, Day 11: January 15
By Meg Dowell
Is this the first time we hear "Joh, I'll see you [insert measure of time here]" in a Vlogbrothers video? It has become so natural to end each of their videos this way now (and has been for years), and to hear the first-ever usage of the phrase really gives you the warm fuzzies.
Also, the planets have temporarily aligned, and I'm watching a Monday Vlogbrothers video on a Monday. It feels good. It feels right. Also, hello. If you're new here, this is a series where I watch every Vlogbrothers video in order, one per day, starting from the very beginning (using this playlist). I'm having a great time so far, especially the more I realize how few of these early videos I actually remember.
Hank's recovering-from-tiny-chicken-disease voice. The book battle. And of course, maybe the first of many "John, I'll see you"s. So many of these early videos are quite short and, on the surface, seemingly very silly. But they're absolutely foundational to what the channel will eventually become -- a community started by two brothers joined and beloved by many more people for years to come.
We're halfway through January 2007 now, which means there are many, many more videos to go before we even finish out the first year of what will eventually becxome known as Vlogbrothers. I have no regrets about any of this, by the way. I'm glad the Green brothers did eventually get around to starting that podcast, even if it did take a while to get it off the ground. Sadly, you can't get to the original website anymore, but that somehow makes it even more special -- a piece of the internet that's now sort of like a special secret. One of those "you had to be there" relics.
I'll be back tomorrow with more commentary on yet another video.
