For many years, MrBeast was seemingly the most popular content creator on YouTube -- literally and figuratively. His status as the most-subscribed channel on the platform put him on top of the game. He still has plenty of loyal fans, and likely always will. But many have grown tired of his presence, and 2024 is turning out to be the year that justifies the disdain.
Now that the creator is in the news for being reported to the FBI, even more people -- online and off -- are questioning MrBeast's true nature. The allegations keep rolling in -- from claims that his philanthropic content is fake to reports that he could be involved in some serious crimes. All this doesn't even include things that have come out that have been proven true -- like his use of homophobic and racial slurs on camera.
There are two possible things you could say here: That status and power really do currupt, especially in online spaces -- or that it takes a certain kind of person, and so often not a good kind of person, to reach the level of notoriety MrBeast has achieved. Maybe it's both. It's probably a little bit of both.
You could argue that maybe in the beginning he really was trying to do something good. Some intentions do start out pure. But that's a stretch when you think about how these "good deeds" only happen when there's content to be made, money to be counted, and subscribers to earn and maintain. When you're a good person for the clout, were you ever really good in the first place?
I like to believe that the truth will always come out eventually, and that a person can never hide the worst parts of themselves forever. At some point, people start to wonder, and look deeper -- and that's when they discover you really were just faking it this whole time.
