What to know about Instagram's Super Like feature
By Meg Dowell
This far into online social media's history, many "new" features are near copies of features that already exist on other platforms. This would be the case with Instagram's Super Like feature -- if it ever becomes available.
The app may be testing the Super Like feature in response to similar features on YouTube and Tinder. On Tinder, you can pay to let someone know you're particularly interested in them. On YouTube, you can pay to have your live stream comments highlighted. It's unclear if Instagram's concept would also be a paid feature.
Allegedly, the app would let users "Super Like" only one Instagram Story every 24 hours. Perhaps more Super Likes would unlock with a payment, though it's all speculation at this point.
Super Likes would be a shiny new feature that Instagram hasn't implemented yet, and answers the age-old "how do I like this more than once" woes of users who might really, really like what you just announced.
Of course, theoretically, only having one Super Like per day would mean you would have to choose your recipient wisely. Do you give it to the cat who can't quite figure out that what they're trying to catch on the TV screen isn't real? To the friend who just announced they're finally leaving that job that made them miserable for a job that will make them slightly less miserable in comparison? That influencer you randomly follow who just started working with a brand you already love?
If that were the toughest decision you had to make that day, you might not mind so much.
Instagram has not announced that Super Likes are becoming widely available anytime soon, but the thought of being able to press and hold the like button for a new effect doesn't sound like the worst feature Instagram could potentially roll out in the months to come.
