TikTok is extremely captivating -- but that can be a good thing

Once you're on TikTok, it's hard to close the app.

Many TikTok users have experienced the extremely captivating effect the app can have on anyone who visits it. Fewer have experienced a similar effect on the creator side -- finding it's easy to stumble into a flow of posting one video after another -- but it still has been known to happen.

While this can easily turn into a problem -- you may find yourself trapped in a seemingly endless loop of watching video after video, or jotting down video idea after video idea -- it doesn't have to be. You can use TikTok's effect to your advantage as a creator.

If you do the right searches and follow and consume the "right" types of content on the app, you may find it's very easy to find and consume content about the subject matter you wish to be perceived as an online "expert" in. This does not mean you actually have to be an expert. But as long as you know how to arrange all the facts of your subject matter in a way that makes you credible and reliable, you can become a self-proclaimed expert in almost anything. Within reason, of course.

Watching videos in your niche also gives you a better sense of who your target audience is and what they like -- or, to take things one step further, the types of content no one else in your niche is making that you could supply a growing demand for.

In content creation of any kind, the common advice to "consume the kind of content you want to create" isn't just a casual suggestion. The more you know about TikTok, the more you may be able to succeed on the platform. You just have to figure out the best way to divide your time between consumption and creation.
