The X (Formerly Twitter) platform has made a lot of changes over the past few years (in addition to formally changing its name back in 2023). And the changes likely aren't stopping anytime soon.

According to a recent post on the platform, X (Formerly Twitter) is considering changing the way its users engage with post comments. Instead of likes, comments, and reposts appearing underneath comments, the plan would allegedly be to display comments in one continuous stream as depicted below.

According to the original post above, X (Formerly Twitter) users would still be able to click or tap in to individual posts to see engagement numbers. They just wouldn't be displayed underneath comments the way they are now.

An official reason for this possible change has not been provided, and many users of the platform are not confident it will be a change that sticks around.

"This will be reversed once the engagement plummets," one post comment read. "The TL will look like a ghost town and deter engagement."

"Nobody asked for this," another user added.

And for anyone who would prefer a Star Wars analogy, another comment reads: "You know how George Lucas had no one to tell him NO anymore when he went on to make the prequels?
This has that same feel to it. "

This is not the only recent proposed (or executed) change that has made X (Formerly Twitter) users question what the future of the platform might look like. When the app interface made public likes private earlier this year, no concrete reason was given for the change.

Very little thought seems to go into decision-making when it pertains to what will be best for retaining users and increasing post engagement. When likes went private, for example, posts users' followers liked no longer appeared on their For You pages -- even though that's how many posts and profiles were ultimately discovered.

It is unclear if or when this change will go into effect. It seems many users hope it never does.
