None pizza, left beef

It has come to my attention that a 15 year-old meme may have been largely forgotten. I know that in terms of internet age I am by this point considered ancient, since I was essentially running around supervised in digital spaces in 2007 despite none of us knowing a single thing about what we were all actually doing there.

But you cannot look me in the eye and tell me that None Pizza With Left Beef is a reference so dated that only ONE person I am associated with online understands the origins of the greatest food-centric meme of mid-2007. Okay, okay, fine. I'll break it down for you. But I'm not happy about it.

As I mentioned, the year was 2007. Blogs were still a common form of digital communication among teenagers and young adults. Which is why one post on the blog The Sneeze went viral enough to become a meme some of us still remember over 15 years later.

At this point we have to pause and remember what things were like in 2007, specifically regarding ordering food from a restaurant. You still had to call most restaurants when you wanted food from them. You couldn't just download the app and tap your way to, let's say, cheesy, doughy goodness. At most places, you couldn't even order through their website yet.

Until large chains like Domino's introduced online ordering for the very first time. Which is how None Pizza With Left Beef was born.

Enter Steven Molaro. Intrigued by the new Domino's online ordering system, he wanted to test what the site was capable of. In particular, he wanted to know whether or not selecting toppings on the right and/or left of a pizza would (literally) deliver accurate results.

Of the two experimental pizzas Molaro ordered, the second was the more peculiar of the two. It called for a pizza with no sauce, no cheese, and beef -- but only on the left side. The resulting blog post documenting the experience titled this creation "NONE Pizza with Left Beef."

This paved the way for many humorous posts to follow, including mine from last night, which we'll call simply "NAAN Pizza with No Beef."

I am not a funny person, but nothing will convince me this was not a funny post. Or should I say "punny" post. It's naan pizza! And none of you understood the reference! Thus, I am reminding the masses what they have forgotten. Because it deserves to be remembered.
