Many adults would rather pursue content creation as a career than more traditional lines of work -- and it's not because they don't want to work.

A recent IZEA survey found that of the nearly 1,200 social media users included, 49% said they would quit their job to become a social media influencer. Data also suggested that the more hours per day respondents spent online, the more likely they were to be compensated for posting online.

There's money in being an influencer online. And the bigger your following, the more money brands are willing to pay you for posting. Many influencers can make a minimum a few hundred dollars per post depending on niche, platform, and audience size. Depending on how often an influencer posts per week or even per day, that amount can add up quickly.

So it makes sense that the more time someone spends online, the more money they could potentially make. Compared to content creators, influencers' main focus is brand deals and profit. Many of them rely on their social media posts to generate income, even if it isn't their full-time job.

Content creation is not a stable career choice by any means, at least compared to the traditional job market. Ad revenue can change overnight. Algorithms can drop engagement without warning. But for many, it seems better than facing the constant possibility of layoffs, not getting paid enough for their work, or having to work 40 hours a week doing work that does not fulfill them.

Making money on the internet has never been as accessible to the masses as it is now. Many influencers attract audiences for their authenticity, encouraging their audiences to believe "anyone can do it." And if you find the rightr niche, have a unique set of skills, and know how to grab and retain viewers, it really is possible for many people already spending a lot of time on socials.
