Instagram has changed a lot over the last few years, and the changes keep on coming. One of the more unpleasant shifts many content creators have noticed is a steady drop in their number of followers -- even though their content has not changed.

There's some good news here if you're worried about your Instagram following. The first good thing to note is that how many people follow you on Instagram matters a lot less now than it used to. Rather than favoring accounts with more followers, the algorithm is geared a lot more toward views. It's less about who already follows you and who may discover you on their news feed.

Additionally, losing followers at a steady rate may not actually be entirely your fault. Bot accounts and inactive accounts often get deleted, so if many of these accounts follow you, you may notice the numbers declining daily. This isn't necessarily a reason to panic -- after all, if the accounts weren't interacting with your content in the first place, all you're really losing is a number.

All that being said, there may be a few things you can do to at the very least help this decline decrease. The most important is, as always, consistency -- posting once, even twice a day gets more eyes on your content and increases the likelihood that more people will follow your account.

The second most important step you can take is a healthy amount of experimentation. Post different types of content to see what gets the most engagement, and focus on the content types that yield the return on investment you are after. That doesn't mean you can't still vary your post types. It just means that your audience (or potential audience) may be interested in something specific that you can post more of.
