Jools Lebron has 'handled' potential 'very demure' trademark disaster
By Meg Dowell
Jools Lebron gave an update yesterday on the situation involving a trademark application for the phrase "very demure, very mindful," and it's a good one.
Lebron is the original creator of the "very demure" trend sweeping through social media this month, and was not happy when someone else applied for the trademark before her. However, it seems the situation may be on its way to a resolution, if one has not been found already.
“We got it handled and I’m gonna leave it at that," she said in a recent TikTok video. It was a short update, but she did clarify that because of how quickly she has gained fame, she now has a team to help her deal with these things. Good for her!
It's not clear if this means she's on her way to having ownership of the trademark or if she has since filed for it, but either way, she has a pretty good chance of being able to claim it over everyone else. The original video that started the trend is pinned to her TikTok profile. The evidence is very clear that she was the one to originate the phrase, and she has a right to (literally) own it.
Earlier this week, in a since-deleted video, she commented that losing out on the potential financial benefits of owning that trademark would be devastating for her and her family. The fact that she might not lose out on that after all is a good thing.
If you have been wondering why everyone has suddenly added "demure" into their everyday vocabulary, you have Lebron solely to thank for that. Everyone you see using the specific "very demure, very mindful" phrase is responding to a trend she started (whether intentionally or otherwise), and she deserves to literally take ownsership of that.
