John Green is back on the internet (and he really loves his brother a lot)

He returned to YouTube to tell his brother how much he loves him (and why that matters).

John Green has returned from his longest internet break in 11 years, and according to his latest video, he has zero regrets about the hiatus.

"I'm feeling much better -- thank you for all your kind messages," he said before launching into the main topic of the video. He promised to touch more on his break in his regular Tuesday video, set to release tomorrow.

John Green released his first video in over a month in celebration of Esther Day, a Nerdfighter community holiday celebrating and honoring the life of Esther Earl, who lost her life to cancer when she was 16 years old. She would have turned 30 this past weekend.

Esther Day is about celebrating non-romantic love -- such as the love between friends and family. When the tradition began, John openly spoke about how difficult it was for him to tell his brother Hank Green that he loved him. In this weekend's video, however, he admitted he tells Hank he loves him much more often now than he used to.

"Traditionally, we've only said this [I love you] on Esther Day for fear of being ... too sentimental," he said in the video. "But since you got cancer, it's become a little easier. We're just more focused on it and aware that this is silly -- to not tell people you love them."

Hank Green was diagnosed with and underwent treatment for cancer in 2023, and has since been able to return to his many hobbies and jobs, except with different hair and perhaps a new perspective on life and the world. He made a whole comedy special about it.

We're looking forward to hearing more of John's reflections on his break in tomorrow's video, and hope that everyone was able to tell someone "I love you" on Esther Day this year. Of course, if you're first hearing about it now, it's never too late.
