If you have enjoyed using Instagram Notes in Direct Messages over the last year or so, you are probably going to like this new update.

Now, instead of being limited to Direct Messages in the app, Instagram Notes can be used in posts and Instagram Reels as wel. Unlike the 24-hour window of notes in Direct Messages between when they are posted and when they disappear, post and Reel Notes last up to three days.

You can sort of think of Notes like sticky notes you stick onto your own or other creators' content. However, Notes are set up so that not just anyone can leave notes on your posts or Reels. Users can only do so to either Close Friends or accounts they follow who follow them back.

Notes were first introduced in 2022, and are now being promoted as a way to initiate conversations with other people. To leave a Note for someone, all you have to do is go to their post or Reel, tap the paper airplane icon, tap "Add Note" and then you can leave a message for the account who published the post or Reel.

This feature is allegedly still not available to everyone with an Instagram account. But just like other features in various stages of development and evolution, if Notes are not available to you yet, chances are they will be very soon.

While Notes won't grab the attention of potential followers (since only people who follow you can see them -- and only those you follow back can respond), they are a potential way to connect in a closer way with people you do follow and want to connect with on a deeper level.

Whether Notes are something you have already been using or the feature is completely new to you, you will likely find a unique way to utilize the feature both as a creator and a friend.
