Starting a YouTube channel can be an exciting yet scary decision. Maybe you've always wanted to have your own channel, but the whole thing has seemed too daunting. To make it easier, there are three important questions you can ask yourself before starting your YouTube channel that will point you in the direction of success.

1. Do you know your niche?

When you become your own "brand" on YouTube or another social media platform, it becomes easier to create content across niches and content about you and your life. Many YouTubers start out by establishing themselves in one specific niche.

So that may be where you want to start. And you can figure that out by looking at your interests, hobbies, or an area or subject matter you consider yourself an expert in.

2. Are you really going to enjoy this?

It's hard work being a content creator, but genuinely enjoying the content you are creating makes those long, hard days a little bit easier.

Before you start creating content for your new channel, really ask yourself: Am I going to want to make content about this possibly every day for months, if not years? Because you're going to be making a lot of content about this one thing in order to establish yourself. If you aren't going to like it, you may need to consider choosing a different niche.

3. Are you prepared to fail?

And I'm not saying that you're not going to succeed EVER. But when you start creating content, you have to know going in that not everything you try is going to work. Not every video is going to get a lot of views. Not every format is going to resonate with subscribers. And that's normal. It's OK.

Failure really is part of obtaining the online success you have always wanted. It's not fun, but the more you fail, the more you're going to learn about what's going to make your channel unique and worth growing over time.
