Lemon8 users can now join using their TikTok account

The app is similar to Instagram and is also owned by ByteDance.

As a potential U.S. TikTok ban slowly approaches, parent company ByteDance has been encouraging users to try another app the company owns called Lemon8. Now, it has added an official integration so that you can now log in to Lemon8 using your TikTok account.

Lemon8 is an app advertised as a combination of Instagram and Pinterest. Users can share content, follow creators and view others' content on "For You" and "Following"-style pages. Through collages and photo collections and with the help of filters, stickers, and more, creators have everything they need to build a space all their own.

Lemon8 and TikTok are still separate apps, but you are now able to use both with the same account so that it's easier to sign up and switch between the two. The so-called "sister app" is really just another way to share the content you love making and a new opportunity to discover other creators also doing what they love.

For the sake of content (because that's what this site is for, after all), I'm willing to give Lemon8 a try and see if it's a better experience than Instagram -- which has, in all honesty, become difficult and not as fun to use now that discoverability is quite complex and frustrating. I don't usually jump over to more apps for the sake of having them -- I'm really trying to practice a healthy amount of digital minimalism (as much as one can in this industry). But hey, why not?

The question remains whether or not the looming TikTok ban in the U.S. will also impact Lemon8, since they're both owned by the same company (and said ownership is the reason we're even talking about the ban at all). But there's still time to give a new (to me) app a try just in case.
