The Game Grumps' Supermarket Simulator is what we need right now

Love it or hate it, life is weird now in the US. The country is incredibly divided, with half celebrating and the other half sharing crisis hotlines. Personally, I'm more in the latter half of that group, but there was one thing that helped me start the healing process.

One particular Wednesday, like clockwork at lunchtime, I had to return home to the Buy & Leave, your friendly neighborhood supermarket. It will be a shop for the everyday man until a new mod is added that allows us to price gouge the heck out of fake people. I am talking about one of the Game Grumps' ongoing series, Supermarket Simulator.

In the midst of the doom and gloom were Danny and Arin piddling along in their little supermarket. Instantly, as the episode opened with Danny yelling, "ARIN! Massage my buttock," I felt myself laughing, breaking up the horrible mental state I was in. The episode didn't do anything special or was even the best episode of Supermarket Simulator. However, it was familiar and warm, filling me with so much joy watching two great friends have a good time together.

I wasn't alone in this sentiment either. Scrolling through the comment section, entry after entry shared similar notions. "I’ve never needed a Supermarket Simulator episode so badly," said one commentator.

Another added, "Found myself refreshing the Game Grumps page waiting for this episode... So sorely needed today. Been watching for ten years now. Their voices and laughter have been with me through so many ups and downs: moving, relationships starting and ending, jobs starting and ending, school degrees starting and ending, sleepless nights, grief, gender transition. Today is no different. I know they hear this all the time but, thanks for all you do, to GG and the crew."

One fan summed up the sentiment well, stating, "I hope the Grumps see how many "I needed this today" comments they're getting and remember that they give us smiles every day, some that are desperately needed. Thanks, Dan and Arin and the rest of the GG team! A break in the form of a fun, silly half hour video can make a lot of difference in someone's day."

And this person is right. I left my own comment on this video, because I felt the same way.

Supermarket Simulator isn't just a regular Game Grumps playthrough. It's Danny and Arin doing what Danny and Arin have always done, which is welcome everyone in. They might not always remember to turn on the lights, and their helpers, Willy and Nilly (please remember their names!), might stick boxes in the wrong places in the storage room, causing delightful chaos. But it is these two friends who will share stories with us, no matter how small, make us laugh, and remind us that we are all welcome at the Buy & Leave.

Which makes me want one of those tote bags even more! So thank you, Game Grumps, for being the show we need right now.
