100 days of good good good (news)
By Meg Dowell
There's no getting around it: There is a lot of bad news in the world. On social media in particular, one doom scroll can make it feel like nothing good is happening right now at all and never will again. Good news often gets overlooked. But there may be a TikTok account that can help dismantle that.
Good Good Good is a media company dedicated to sharing stories of good news that don't often get covered in traditional media. They also have a TikTok account, and starting tomorrow, they'll be sharing good news and progress updates every day for the next 100 days.
One downside about sharing good news on the internet is that there are people who somehow find it possible and necessary to view it as a bad thing -- as if sharing good news is somehow ignoring the bad news in the world or trying to imply certain news stories don't matter. Almost as if sharing good news somehow makes the world worse?
And that's why Good Good Good is committing to 100 days of good news videos. Because good news does nothing but bring more good news onto your For You pages, and sometimes we need that. Sometimes, in order to handle the bad news, we need a little good news too.
There will always be a mix of good news and bad news in the world, and it's our responsibility to acknowledge both. We need to pay attention to bad news because it both makes us aware of what's happening around us and (ideally) prompts us to take action to improve it in some way. And we need good news because humans can't function when only bad things are in front of them. We need some good news to remind us that life is worth living, even when there are bad things.
